Hank Sinatra and his fabulous Atomic Cowboys at a special show at the Landmark Saloon, on SE Division in Portland, Oregon. Not only was this a Christmas show, but it was also the Winter Solstice (the longest day of the year), and according to the ancient Mayan Calendar, the last day before the end of the world… i.e. The Apocalypse.
But thanks to Hank, his Cowboys, and all their fans, the good vibes at the Landmark canceled out all the bad mojo and the world was saved. You’re welcome.
At this show, our all-star lineup included Harley James (steel guitar), James Mason (fiddle), Pete Lampe (bass), and Kevin Major on drums.

“Chattanooga Shoeshine Boy” I love country music from the 40’s and 50’s, when it had elements of swing and jazz, and even the roots of rockabilly. This is close to the Red Foley version, but even my great-uncle Frank covered it. This clip features some great performances from Harley and James.

The “Workin’ Man Blues” is one of my favorite Merle Haggard tunes. The Atomic Cowboys just rip it up!

“Funny How Time Slips Away” is a perfect example of how a great country song crosses over to every genre. Willie Nelson wrote it in 1960, and it’s been recorded by everyone from Elvis and The Supremes to Stevie Wonder and Al Green. Listen as Harley James nails the song’s iconic background licks on the pedal steel.
